"OUR CURSE" AWARDED AT LOOK&ROLL FESTIVAL

On 27 September, the festival Look&Roll ended in Olten, Switzerland. Among the festival winners, there is the documentary by Tomasz Śliwiński, "Our Curse," which won the Foundation Denk an mich award.

Look & Roll is a film festival held in Switzerland every two years, the theme of which is broadly understood disability. Its organiser is Procap Schweiz - the organisation which helps people with disabilities. This year's edition of the festival, held from 24 to 27 September, was very successful for Tomasz Śliwiński. His film "Our Curse" was appreciated at the festival by the Foundation Denk an mich, which gave its award to the film.

The jury justified their verdict in the following way:

“The foundation Denk an mich is very pleased to reward a film that deals with daily issues, impairment, disability, leisure and recreation in a special way. This film invites us to follow young parents a part way through their life with their child - on a path, where the word 'recovery' gets an entirely new and existential meaning. And in the end the film effects what has always been difficult in the context of disability and impairment. It forces us to take a close look.”

So far, this is the seventh award won at international festivals by the film by Tomasz Śliwiński. The film is a personal confession of the director, who, together with his wife, has to face a very rare, incurable disease of their new-born child - Ondine's Curse (congenital central hypoventilation syndrome, CCHS). People afflicted with this disease stop breathing during sleep and require life-long use of respirator to support their respiratory functions.
