“TOGETHER” AND “THE PROMISE OF A HAPPY CHILDHOOD” NOMINATED FOR THE PRIX EUROPA AWARD

Next week in Berlin, the festival Prix Europa starts, where the awards for the best European radio, television and internet productions are given. In the television documentary category, two Polish films are nominated: “Together” by Maciej Adamek and “The Promise of a Happy Childhood” by Piotr Morawski and Ryszard Kaczyński.

The Prix Europa festival was founded in 1987, inspired by the Council of Europe and European Cultural Foundation. Its aim is to promote and present the widest range of European radio, television and internet productions. Today, the festival cooperates with over 25 organisations from various countries, such as the European Parliament, the European Broadcasting Union, and Polish Television. It is a place where film producers from the whole Europe meet and share their ideas. This year's edition takes place from 18 to 25 October.

This year, two Polish films are nominated for the Prix Europa award in the television documentary category. The first of them is “Together” by Maciej Adamek. Its protagonists are three people, for whom their relations with animals became the most important part of their lives. Their favourite dogs and cats fill the empty space left by their close ones who left them, by unhappy relationships and serve as a recompense for the lack of family. “Together” shows that the relations with animals can be as strong as relations with people.

The second film is “The Promise of a Happy Childhood” by Piotr Morawski and Ryszard Kaczyński. It is the story of five siblings from the children’s home in Przysieka by Szklarska Poręba, who were adopted by an American couple, Rita and Robert Jurotich. Overnight, fourteen-year-old Oktawia, twelve-year-old Sylwek, eleven-year-old Andrzej, six-year-old Artur and four-year-old Kasia got a chance to have a happy life. However, soon after they came to America, it turned out that their idyllic dreams crashed with brutal reality. The film is a record of the siblings’ dramatic experience over 15 years.

You can find more information about the nominations on  the festival’s website.
