“SATI” HAS THE POPRAD IMFF JURY AWARD

Last weekend, in Slovakian Poprad, the 12th edition of the International Mountain Film Festival. Among the award-winners, there is a Polish documentary film - “Sati” by Bartek Świderski.

45 films representing 15 countries competed for the Grand Prix of the Mountain Film Festival in Poprad.  The jury’s award went to the Polish documentary “Sati” by Bartek Świderski. The jury, consisting of Tamara Styś-Zaluska (Polish alpinist), Bob A. Schelfhout Aubertijn (Danish alpinist and journalist), and Rast’o Hatiar (Slovak director and cameraman of mountain films), wrote in the verdict that “Sati” is an intimate portrait of sadness and loss. It is the second time when the film wins an award abroad. Last October, “Sati” was awarded at the Italian mountain film festival in Trento.

The film by Świderski is a memorial of Piotr Morawski, who conquered six eight-thousanders and was the participant in the first in history winter ascent of Shishapangma. He died on 8 April 2009 in the Himalayas, on the slopes of Dhaulagiri. The story about him, told by the Himalaya-climber's wife, Olga, is full of regret and respect for her husband's passion. The meetings with Olga Morawska, which are edited in the film, took place over several months after her husband's death. The first one - just a month after this event.
The film was produced by the company HI Movies, Inga Kruk and MDS, while its promotion abroad is supported by the Krakow Film Foundation.
