Last Saturday, 25 October, the eight edition of the Ânûû-Rû Âboro film festival in the faraway New Caledonia came to an end. The latest documentary by Maciej Drygas, “Abu Haraz,” is the winner of the Grand Prix, the most important award at the festival. The films in the International Competition were assessed by the jury, consisting of Hind Saïh, Jean-Pierre Djaiwe, Régis Vendégou, Frédérique Cid-Masotta and Jean-François Corral.

The eponymous "Abu Haraz" is a small village located among the deserts of northern Sudan. Building a large dam on the Nile is in conflict with the ancient, natural rhythm of life of the local population. The filmmakers spent many years with the inhabitants of Abu Haraz, observing their urgent attempts to reverse the course of history.
