POLISH SHORT FILMS IN CORK

Today starts the 59th edition of the International Film Festival in Cork. “Our Curse” will compete for the festival laurels in the international competition, whereas in the programme of accompanying screenings, there are two blocks presenting Polish films.

This year, the organisers of the festival in Cork decided to include in the programme the screening of the most popular Polish short films of recent years. In the collection “New Polish Shorts,” there are “Ziegenort” by Tomasz Popakul (over 80 festivals abroad and 15 awards in 2013), “Frozen Stories” by Grzegorz Jaroszuk (over 50 festivals abroad and 12 awards in 2012), “The Mother” by Łukasz Ostalski (40 festivals abroad and 11 awards) and “Exit Point” by Jagoda Szelc (12 festivals and 2 awards). The screening is held on 13 November.

The second programme, prepared in co-operation with the festival T-Mobile New Horizons in Wrocław, features four films by the graduates of New Horizons Studio - a training programme organised by the festival T-Mobile New Horizons, which includes numerous meetings with professionals representing various branches of the film industry. In July, New Horizons Studio was held for the fifth time. Within the frames of the screening in Cork, the following films will be shown: "128th Rat” by Jakub Pączek, “Lena and me” by Kalina Alabrudzińska, “Such A Landscape” by Jagoda Szelc and Turkish short film “Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow” by Anil Kay. The screening “Shorts by New Horizons Studio Alumni 2014” is held on 14 November.

It is also worth mentioning that last year, the festival’s Grand Prix went to the student film by Martin Rath, "Arena". This year’s edition of the festival lasts until 16 November, when the names of this year's winners will be announced.

The Cork Film Festival is one of the oldest film festivals worldwide. Every year more than 200 recent films – features, shorts and documentaries – are screened in the programme. Three competitive sections are presented in frames of the festival – feature film competition, documentary competition and short film competition.
