MICHAŁ MARCZAK’S “CLOSURE” NOMINATED FOR THE GOTHAM AWARDS!
Michał Marczak’s “Closure” is among just five films nominated for the prestigious Gotham Awards in the Best Documentary Feature category! Presented by the New York-based Gotham Film & Media Institute, the awards are among the most prominent honours in American independent cinema, recognising bold and original filmmaking. The nomination marks another major achievement for the Polish documentary, which has been gaining recognition on the international festival circuit throughout the year.
The 36th Gotham Film Awards bring together films by established directors and emerging talents from around the world. The nominees were selected by committees of film critics, journalists, festival programmers and curators, while the winners will be chosen by separate juries comprising film industry professionals.
In the Best Documentary Feature category, “Closure” is competing against four acclaimed documentaries: “A Fox Under a Pink Moon” by Soraya Akhlaghi and Mehrdad Oskouei, “NAZA” by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, “Once Upon a Time in Harlem” by David Greaves, and the much-talked-about “You Can See Everything” by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim.
“Closure” tells the deeply moving story of Daniel, whose sixteen-year-old son, Krzysztof, disappears without a trace. The teenager is last captured by a surveillance camera on a bridge over the Vistula River in Warsaw. Whether he jumped into the river or left the bridge unseen remains unknown. From that moment on, his parents, Daniel and Agnieszka, find themselves caught in an agonising state of uncertainty, suspended between hope and fear.
The documentary was presented at the Sundance Film Festival and went on to win the Golden Alexander in the International Competition at the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival. A Polish-French co-production, the film was produced by Braidmade Films in collaboration with the French company Warboys Films. Its producers include Monika Braid, Michał Marczak, Rémi Grellety, Katarzyna Szczerba and Karolina Marczak.
The winners of the Gotham Awards will be announced at a ceremony in New York City on November 30, 2026.
