AGNIESZKA ZWIEFKA’S “WORDS WE NEVER SAY” WINS AWARD AT JI.HLAVA NEW VISIONS FORUM

Agnieszka Zwiefka’s “Words We Never Say” has won the RAFF Residency Award at Ji.hlava New Visions Forum 2026, one of the leading industry events held alongside the Czech documentary film festival. The award gives the filmmakers the opportunity to take part in a five-day creative residency in Croatia, where they will further develop their project with guidance from international experts.

Ji.hlava New Visions Forum is a platform for presenting new documentary projects, offering filmmakers opportunities to connect with potential co-producers, film fund representatives, sales agents and distributors. This year’s edition, held from October 28 to 30, showcased 29 projects from 15 countries, including “Words We Never Say”.

Agnieszka Zwiefka’s new film explores the complex relationship between a mother and daughter who find themselves on opposite sides of a growing political divide. Against the backdrop of rising far-right sentiment, the two embark on a journey across Poland and Europe, confronting their differing beliefs and experiences. At the same time, they revisit and re-enact past arguments in a film studio, returning to the conflicts that have shaped their relationship over the years. Blending the documentary road movie format with elements of fictional dramatisation, the project uses an intimate family story to explore political polarisation and the possibility of finding common ground despite fundamental differences.

Agnieszka Zwiefka directs the film and also serves as a producer alongside Iza Igel. “Words We Never Say” is being developed as an international co-production between Poland, Germany, Bulgaria and Spain.
