‘THE TUNERS’ AT THE PRESTIGIOUS DOC NYC, DOC STORIES AND ST. LOUIS IFF IN THE USA
Paweł Chorzępa’s „The Tuners” is taking film festivals around the world by storm. This autumn, it will be screened at several major film events in the United States.
The popularity of Paweł Chorzępa’s short film “The Tuners” in the United States shows no sign of waning. Over the past few months, American audiences have had the chance to see the winner of the Silver Dragon at the Krakow Film Festival and several other prestigious awards – at the DC/DOX festival in Washington, the Indy Shorts FF in Indianapolis, the Flickers’ Rhode Island IFF and, most recently, in the competition at the 35th Hot Springs Documentary FF in Arkansas, the oldest continuously running documentary film festival in North America.
In early November, the film will be screened in the short film competition at the St. Louis International Film Festival. At the same time, audiences in San Francisco will have the chance to see it, where, as one of 11 short films from around the world, it has been selected for the 12th edition of Doc Stories – the autumn documentary programme of the renowned San Francisco IFF, organised by SFFILM. “The Tuners” will be screened there in the “Shorts Block: New York Times Op-Docs” section, as part of a selection of the five most interesting films featured on the NYT platform.
In the second half of November, the film will have its New York premiere at the prestigious DOC NYC festival, where it will be screened as part of the exclusive ‘Short List: Shorts’ programme, showcasing films in the running for the world’s most prestigious film awards.
Paweł Chorzępa’s film takes a look behind the scenes of the Chopin Competition, giving a voice to those whose work usually remains in the shadow of the grand musical performances. These are the piano tuners – the sound of the instruments on which the most outstanding pianists perform depends on their precision, experience and sensitivity. The camera explores a world where technical perfection meets art, and work that is seemingly invisible becomes an integral part of the musical event.
A series of invitations to prestigious events in the United States confirms that this story transcends its local context and resonates with an international audience. It also presents an opportunity to further consolidate the position of “The Tuners” in the world of documentary cinema.
The producer of “The Tuners” is Joanna Chorzępa of Bees Film House, whilst KFF Sales is responsible for international festival distribution and sales.
