YET ANOTHER AWARD FOR "DECLARATION OF IMMORTALITY"

Yesterday evening, the 20th edition of Mountain Film Festival in Poprad came to an end. The documentary by Marcin Koszałka, shown in the competition section, was included among the award-winning films!

The Slovakian festival is one of the twenty festivals forming International Alliance for Mountain Films, organisation which has vigorously promoted the mountain cinematography and facilitated the contact between film makers and producers for the last 12 years. Every year Alliance for Mountain Films gives a special award for the best film maker of mountain films. The mountain cinema feast has been organised in Poprad for over 20 years, each year gathering a large audience. Yesterday evening, during the closing ceremony, Marcin Koszałka turned out to be the winner with his film "Declaration of Immortality" which received the festival's Grand Prix.

The film by Koszałka is the story of Piotr "Mad" Korczak - one of the best Polish mountaineers, who once was also the director's teacher in the days gone by. Koszałka concentrates on the twilight of the great master's career, at the same time provoking him into reflection on his own life, with the prospect of the approaching old age. The film is a poignant story about the impossibility of coming to terms with passing time and a longing for immortality.

"Declaration of Immortality" produced by Polish Television, has already won over 10 awards and honorary mentions  at such prestigious festivals like Karlove Vary or Trento and at mountain film festivals in the best climbing film category ( Vancouver, Slovenian Domžale or Gratz). The award at the festival in Poprad is the second Grand Prix for the film, after the Czech Teplice.

There were 46 films screened in the programme of this year's festival,  apart from "Declaration of Immortality" Poland was represented by two other films: "Darkness in the Tatra" by Bartek Solik and animated "The Bear" by Krzysztof Kokoryn and Wojciech Kliczka.
