"ARGENTINIAN LESSON" RECEIVES SPECIAL MENTION AT THE MIRADASDOC FESTIVAL
Last Saturday, on 3 November, the seventh edition of the MiradasDoc festival ended. The documentary "Argentinian lesson" by Wojciech Staroń got the special mention in the international competition.
MiradasDoc is a documentary film festival whose history dates back to 2006. It was then when in the charming Canary Island city of Guía de Isora (Tenerife) the first edition of the festival was held, whose initiator and main organiser is the City Council of Guía de Isora. This year's, seventh edition of MiradasDoc was organized, as the organizers emphasise, with great expenditure and work, only to come to the conclusion that "only that which is difficult prompts to action."The jury of the International Full-Length Documentary Film Competition, consisting of Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón, Mocha Aguilar and Tono Folguera gave the special mention to the repeatedly shown at the festivals and awarded "Argentinian lesson" by Wojciech Staroń. The film presents, in a captivating way, the friendship of two children - Janek and Marcia. He is a son of Polish language teacher, who conducts Polish lessons for the children of Polish emigrants in a small Argentinian town, while she is one of the pupils. Even though they are of similar age, their life experience is very different, and friendship with Marcia means for Janek coming in contact with - so far unknown to him - bitter taste of childhood, prematurely tainted with adult problems.
