"FUCK FOR FOREST" - THE BEST DOCUMENTARY FILM AT THE WARSAW FILM FESTIVAL
Last weekend abounded with awards for Polish documentary films. On the 28th Warsaw Film Festival, the film "Fuck for forest" by Michał Marczak was chosen the best documentary.
On Saturday evening, the award ceremony of the 28th Warsaw Film Festival took place. Nine awards were given in five competition sections. The FIPRESCI jury, the ecumenical jury and the NETPAC organisation as well as the audience also awarded their favourites.The Documentary Competition Jury, composed of Jana Cisar, Thymaya Payne and Mariusz Szczygieł decided to give the main award to the film by Michał Marczak "Fuck for Forest." This documentary, distributed by Against Gravity, had its world première at the Warsaw Film Festival. The film tells a story of a young Norwegian Danny, who comes across one of the most unconventional non-governmental organisations - Fuck for Forest. The activists of this group shoot and sell amateur pornography on their website to gain funds for saving the Amazonian jungle. Danny, fascinated by the ideology of the group, decides to join Fuck for Forest and this is how their common road begins.
In the Documentary Competition, the film "The World Before Her" by the Canadian director Nisha Pahuja was also awarded. According to the audience, the picture "Far Out Isn't Far Enough: The Tomi Ungerer Story" by Brad Bernstein was chosen the best documentary.
The Grand Prix of the 28th WFF went to the French-Belgian-Luxembourgian coproduction "Tango Libre" by Frédéric Fonteyne. It is worth mentioning that "Fuck for Forest" was not the only one Polish film awarded in Warsaw. The International Competition Award for the Best Director went to Andrzej Jakimowski for the film "Imagine." The same film was chosen the best feature film in the poll among the audience.
