"ARGENTINIAN LESSON" - THE WINNER AT DETOUR FESTIVAL

Last Sunday in Padua, the award ceremony of the first edition of the Detour International Travel Film Festival 2012 took place. The award for the best film of the festival went to "Argentinian lesson" by Wojciech Staroń.

The first edition of the Detour International Film Festival was held from 18 to 21 October in Padua. Luca Trivellato, the originator of the festival, explains that travel is perceived by the festival jury as "an extraordinary metaphor for freedom, discoveries and innovation." According to him, film is a journey, which often challenges the viewer and invites him to transcend the boundaries of rationality.

The main festival award, that is, the best film award, the jury gave to the film by Wojciech Staroń - "Argentinian lesson". In the justification of the verdict, it was emphasised that the director managed to create road cinema by portraying "the charming spontaneity of the young protagonists" and their journeys together, the physical ones as well as the inner road towards adulthood. The subtle balancing on the boundary between documentary and feature film was also appreciated.

On this occasion, it is worth mentioning that "Argentinian lesson" has already been awarded several times at many important film festivals. In 2011, it got the Silver Dove at DOK festival Leipzig, Grand Prix of the Belarussian festival Listapad and film festival in Guangzhou in China, as well as the best director award at the Dei Popoli festival in Italy and honourable mention at Plus Camerimage. In 2012 the film by Staroń was chosen the best documentary film at the festival in Batumi.
