THE MAIN AWARD AT ASTRA FILM FESTIVAL FOR "PHNOM PENH LULLABY"

In the Romanian city of Sibiu, the Astra Film Festival has just ended. The festival's Grand Prix was given to the picture by Paweł Kloc "Phnom Penh Lullaby."

"Phnom Penh Lullaby" is the first full-length documentary by Paweł Kloc. The film has been shown at the festivals all around the world. It got the Silver Horn and Silver Hobby-Horse awards at the 51st Krakow Film Festival and honorary mention at the DOK Lepizig Festival. The jury of the Astra Film Festival, which ended last weekend, on 21 October, appreciated the fact that the director "shared the uncomfortable situation of his protagonists, at the same time keeping appropriate distance and leaving the viewer with a sad feeling of the disappointing truth about life." The film got the festival's Grand Prix also because it managed to heartily move the jury by presenting this "intense and painful journey to the end of night."

 Astra Film Festival has already existed for 12 years. It came into being as an ethnographic and anthropological film festival, and with the passage of time it developed into one of the most important documentary film festivals in this part of Europe. As one of very few documentary film festival, AFF boasts the financial support of the Media Desk programme. This year's edition took place in Sibiu from 15 to 21 October. Apart from "Phnom Penh Lullaby" the festival viewers had the opportunity to see yet another Polish film - "Camp" by Tomasz Jeziorski was shown in the students' documentary competition.
