POLISH DOCUMENTARIES NOMINATED TO SILVER EYE AWARDS

International Documentary Film Festival in Jihlava starts on 23 October. Within the frames of the festival, the 9th edition of the East Silver Market fair, in which several dozen Polish films take part, will be held. As many as 9 of them are nominated to Silver Eye award.

East Silver Market is a film fair, whose aim is to promote and distribute documentary films from 27 countries in Central Eastern Europe, including Poland. This year, the fair will accompany the International Documentary Film Festival in Jihlava for the ninth time. It is worth mentioning, that East Silver does not include only the film fair - to promote documentaries from Eastern Europe, two innovative tools came into being: East Silver Caravan and East Silver TV Focus. The films selected to East Silver Caravan are submitted to 70 most important film festivals on the world, and East Silver TV Focus was created with the aim to distribute documentary films in the schedules of television channels.  

 Since 2009, Silver Eye awards are given during East Silver Market. The films which take part in the market are divided into three categories - short, middle-length and full-length. In each of them, 11 films are nominated. The winners, apart from the statuette, receive 1500 euro and a year-long representation of the film at East Silver Caravan. This year, the Silver Eye award ceremony will be held on 27 October, during the International Documentary Film Festival in Jihlava, and as many as 9 Polish documentaries are among the nominees. These are:

"We will be happy one day" by Paweł Wysoczański
 "Maestro" by Konrad Ziaja
 "Samosiuk. The Independent Film Republic" by Adam Lewandowski
"Exit point" by Jagoda Szelc
"18 kg" by Kacper Czubak
 "Cut-paste" by Rafał Samusik

 Apart from this, the following films will be shown on the fair, among others:"Kichot" by Jagoda Szelc, "Political dress" by Judyta Fibiger, "Loneliness of Sound" by Jacek Piotr Bławut, "Losing Sonia" by Radka Franczak, "My house without me" by Magdalena Szymków, "One meter above ground" by Tomasz Wiszniewski, "Pizza a'la Polonaise" by Grzegorz Krawiec, "Toys" by Andrzej Wolski, "Vera Gran" by Maria Zmarz-Koczanowicz, "Freestyle life" by Adam Palenta and "Musics" by Agnieszka Gonczarek and Patryk Kizny.

 Previously, Polish films were also represented in great number at East Silver Market, and - even more - many of them received the Silver Eye awards. In 2009, "Six weeks" by Marcin Janos Krawczyk won in the short film category, and "Rabbit a'la Berlin" by Bartosz Konopka - in the middle-length film category. "Side-track" by Anna Kazejak got the honourable mention in the full-length film category. A year later, "That's life" by Daniel Zieliński was chosen the best short film, and "At the edge of Russia" by Michał Marczak - the best full-length film.The honourable mentions went to the films: "The work of machines" by Michał and Maciej Mądracki and Gilles Lepore, and to "Plain landscape with a cradle" by Arkadiusz Biedrzycki.Last year, 5 Polish films were nominated to Silver Eye.  These were: "Argentinian lesson" by Wojciech Staroń, "Doctors" by Tomasz Wolski, "Phnom Penh Lullaby" by Paweł Kloc, "Tonia and her children" by Marcal Łoziński, and "Paparazzi" by Piotr Bernaś.

  It is worth mentioning, that East Silver Market will not be the only festival event in Jihlava addressed to film professionals. Industry Programme promises to be interesting. Within its frames, the following events will take place: Emerging Producers, Inspiration Forum, and Festival Identity. The first one is devoted to presentation and mutual acquaintance of film producers debuting on the market. The second one is the series of discussions about new, but important themes and subjects which are so far absent from documentary films. Festival Identity is organized as a forum of film festivals representatives from all around the world. The festivals can also take part in the best poster competition - Festival Poster Competition.
