“TOO COLD FOR A STORM” BY IGOR SAS WINS TWO AWARDS AT THESSALONIKI FREE SHORT FESTIVAL
Igor Sas’s film “Too Cold For a Storm”, produced by the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School in Katowice, has won two awards at the Thessaloniki Free Short Festival. The film received the Best International Student Director Award and the Best International Student Screenplay Award.
Thessaloniki Free Short Festival is an independent short film festival held in Thessaloniki since 2021. The event is organised without sponsors or external funding, and participation is free for both filmmakers and audiences. This year’s sixth edition took place on 15 September 2026.
Both awards were presented to Igor Sas – for directing and screenwriting. The jury praised the film’s visual qualities, atmosphere, and emotional impact, highlighting its black-and-white cinematography, the way it builds tension, and the relationships between the characters. In the screenplay category, the jury also noted the restrained storytelling, which gradually reveals the family history and the tension surrounding it, as well as the film’s exceptional production quality for a student project.
“Too Cold For a Storm” tells the story of Piotr, who returns to his family village after many years to take his late father on one final journey to the cemetery, as his father had wished. Also travelling with him is Paweł, Piotr’s half-brother, whom he has never had the chance to meet. As the brothers cross the fields on their way to the cemetery, they are forced to have a conversation neither of them really wants to have.
