“MONUMENT” BY ALEKSANDR TEREKHOV SELECTED FOR THE MILL VALLEY FILM FESTIVAL
Aleksandr Terekhov’s short film Monument has been selected for the 49th Mill Valley Film Festival in California. Produced with the support of the Juliusz Mieroszewski Centre for Dialogue and starring Polish actresses Angelika Jasińska and Anna Kramarczyk, the film will screen as part of the “Shorts: City of the Dead” programme. This year’s edition of the festival will take place from 1 to 11 October 2026.
Monument begins with a seemingly ordinary return to the family past. A grown-up daughter watches old home videos and recalls a happy childhood cut short when her father left the country many years ago. Then, unexpectedly, he calls. What is most unsettling is that despite the passage of time, he has not aged at all. A seemingly ordinary conversation gradually reveals a painful truth.
The film was made with financial support from the Juliusz Mieroszewski Centre for Dialogue. The leading roles are played by two Polish actresses representing different generations, Angelika Jasińska and Anna Kramarczyk, while the soundtrack also features an original song in Polish.
The film is directed by Aleksandr Terekhov, an independent filmmaker based in Warsaw, who plans to continue developing his professional career in Poland with a focus on international co-productions. He is the son of actress Margarita Terekhova, known, among other roles, for her performance in Andrei Tarkovsky’s Mirror.
Monument will be presented at the Mill Valley Film Festival as part of “Shorts: City of the Dead”, a programme bringing together short films that explore death, loss, memory and our relationship with the past. The selection gives the filmmaker an opportunity to present the film to American audiences and to take part in the industry events accompanying the festival.
