“CHILD OF DUST” WINS TOP PRIZE AT A FESTIVAL IN WASHINGTON

We recently reported that Weronika Mliczewska’s “Child of Dust” had been selected for the programme of the DC Independent Film Festival (DCIFF) in Washington, D.C. Today it is clear that the visit ended in success: the film won the award for Best Feature Documentary. DCIFF is one of the notable events on the U.S. independent film circuit, showcasing titles that engage with social issues and contemporary geopolitical challenges.

At the invitation of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in the United States, the filmmakers attended the festival, including director Weronika Mliczewska and production manager Hania Drewek.

In addition to the main prize, the film secured a commitment from the NGO Father Founded to collaborate on a U.S. impact campaign. Financial support for the campaign was pledged by Loida Lewis, an Amerasian Filipina philanthropist from the Philippines –  a country not covered by the Homecoming Act, the legislation recognising children of American soldiers born in selected Asian countries. The impact campaign aims to push for legislative change regarding the recognition rights of Amerasians from the Philippines and to address the government’s current approach to migrants. Loida Lewis also declared that she will serve as an ambassador for the film during its U.S. theatrical release.

The film’s U.S. cinema release is scheduled for May 2026, with distribution by EPF Media.

“Child of Dust” has been nominated for the Polish Film Awards (Orły) in two categories: Best Documentary and Best Music. To date, the film has screened at 38 film festivals worldwide and has won 14 awards at prestigious festivals in Poland and abroad.

The film was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Production: Ya Man Studio, co-produced with Telewizja Polska, Clubhouse Films, Lonely Production, Ginestra Film, Fixafilm, Mx35, and Al Jazeera Documentary.
