New Regulations of Krakow Film Festival
The recruitment for the 50th edition of Krakow Film Festival has just started. The regulations regarding submitting new films to the festival have changed, and consequently the formula of the Festival will be modified.
n 2010, Kraków Film Festival will have been organized for 50 years. Despite a fair age, the oldest film event in Poland is changing year after year, trying to meet the demands of the film professionals and the audience, as well as adapting to the international standards. Changes, which are included in the regulations of the 50th edition, are intended to strengthen its position among the most important film events presenting short and documentary films, by specifying its formula. ** The formula of the feature-length documentaries competition have been expanded: apart form full-length, also shorter documentaries, ranging from 30 to 60 minutes, will be accepted. This means introducing two equivalent awards: Golden Horns for director of the best film up to 60 minutes and for director of the best film longer than 60 minutes. There will also be two Silver Horn awards of equal rank, given for special artistic value. Thus, the festival will receive a new name: international documentary films competition.
** The length of documentary films accepted into the international short film competition is also changed. In 2010, documentaries, animations and short feature films not longer than 30 minutes can be submitted to the festival, which means that documentaries longer than 30 minutes will not be taken into account while selecting the films for the competition. Such documentaries can be submitted to the international documentary films competition.
** The regulations of the national competition are unchanged. Accepted films include:
• documentaries not longer than 60 minutes
• animations not longer than 30 minutes
• feature films not longer than 30 minutes
The selection committee will choose films to represent Poland on international competitions from the films submitted for the Polish competition.
** The Polish premiere requirement applies only to the international documentary films competition. In other ones, Polish premiere is not required, though priority is given to the films which have not been shown in Poland during any festivals held prior to 50th KFF.
** Only films completed after 1st January 2009 are eligible for the competitions.
** Deadlines for film submissions:
• films completed before 31st August 2009: 30th November 2009
• films completed after 31st August 2009: 11th February 2010
