"FAT KATHY” NAMED BEST FILM AT ITALIAN FESTIVAL

The short film directed by Julia Pełka has stolen the hearts of jurors at Versi di Luce Festival.

Versi di Luce Festival is an event held in the Sicilian town of Modica. The organisers invite artists, directors, writers, and poets. After all, that's where the Nobel Prize winner Salvatore Quasimodo was born. The event's program includes numerous accompanying events, but its core is composed of short films and videos, video poetry, and feature-length film productions.

This year, the Polish documentary by Julia Pełka has received an invitation. The jurors liked Fat Kathy so much that they named it the best film of the event.

The titular Fat Kathy is a water pump that has 8 supersensitive clams connected to computers. The lives of millions of people living in the city depend on them. The only scientist-malacologist in Poland makes sure that the specimens used in the system work properly and generate an alarm in the event of water contamination.
