"THE WIND. A DOCUMENTARY THRILLER" AWARDED IN LEIPZIG

The film by Michał Bielawski won the MDR Film Prize for the best documentary film from Eastern Europe at this year's edition of the DOK Leipzig. "The Wind. A Documentary Thriller" was presented in the prestigious section Late Harvest.

DOK Leipzig is one of the leading events in the world of documentary and animated film. Every year, in Leipzig, the latest film productions from several dozens of countries from all continents are presented. This year at the DOK Leipzig, 310 films were shown, including 161 films screened in the official selection, and over 140 were presented in the special programmes.

There was no lack of Polish films in the programme of the German festival. In addition to the award-winning film by Michał Bielawski, the following films were included in various sections: "In Touch" by Paweł Ziemilski, "Guilt" by Marcjanna Urbańska, "Portrait of Suzanne" by Izabela Plucińska and "Last Supper" by Piotr Dumała. In the section KIDS Dok, "The Kite" by Martin Smatana was presented. And within the frames of the Homage Brothers Quay, the viewers had the opportunity to watch  "Chips," directed by Jerzy Kucia and two Polish co-productions made by the Quay Brothers duo: "Inventorium of Traces" and "Maska."

The protagonist of the film "The Wind. A Documentary Thriller" is the halny wind - one of the most unpredictable forces in the Polish mountains. It appears cyclically every spring and autumn. You can never know if and when it would turn into a destructive windstorm. The halny wind affects particularly the inhabitants of Zakopane and its surrounding area, changing the picturesque mountain trails into the space of uncontrollable nature.
