MARCH FESTIVALS

With spring, March brings some animation in the festival life of Polish documentaries. This month, 14 Polish documentaries will be present at 21 screenings within the frames of 11 film festivals.

At the beginning of the month, Polish documentaries were screened at the festivals which began in February. Four films were invited to participate in the competitive section of Croatian festival Zagreb Dox. The following films were shown in the capital of Croatia: "Everything is possible" by Lidia Duda, "Eighteenth Birthday" by Marta Prus, “Father and son on a journey” by Marcel Łoziński and "Father and Son" by Paweł Łoziński. "My House Without Me" by Magdalena Szymków took part in the competition at the Italian festival Sguardi Altrove.

The screening at Sguardi Altrove is not the only festival appearance of "My House Without Me" in March. The documentary by Magdalena Szymków will be also screened in the programme of three women film festivals: Australian Women in Film and Television, WOW Film Festival, American Women Film Festival and Swedish IFEMA International Female Film Festival Malmo. All of the aforementioned shows are competition screenings.

Swedish audience will also have an opportunity to watch Polish documentary films not only in Malmo, but also in Stockholm, where "Joanna" by Aneta Kopacz and "Father and Son" will compete for awards. Apart from "My House Without Me," in March the American audience will have a chance to watch the films "El Sueño" by Jakub Łubniewski and Mikołaj Molenda and "Sometimes I Dream I'm Flying" by Aneta Popiel-Machnicka, which were invited to take part in the competitive section at the American Documentary Film Festival in Palm Springs, California.

A couple of Polish films has been selected to the competitive sections by the programmers of each of the following human rights documentary film festivals: One World festival in the Czech Republic and Docudays UA in Ukraine. "A Visit" by Matej Bobrik, "Our Curse" by Tomasz Śliwiński and "Everything is possible" will take part in the competition of the first festival. "Abu Haraz" by Maciej J. Drygas, "The Odd Movie" by Brygida Frosztęga-Kmiecik and "Joanna" to the programme of the second festival.

"Camp" by Tomasz Jeziorski will be shown in Barcelona, in the competitive section of the Mecal short film festival, whereas "Our Curse," apart from the screening in the Czech Republic, in March will compete for awards at the International Film Festival in Vilnius.
