„ROGALIK” ANNOUNCED THE BEST SHORT OF ALCINE
A winning streak that the documentary “Rogalik” has been enjoying for a couple of months seem to have no end. Last Friday the film scored the 1st prize of the European competition of the Spanish Alcine Short Film Festival.
Alcine – that celebrated its 43rd edition this year - is currently one of the most prominent and the oldest Spanish festivals that screen short films. The festival has two main competitions – Spanish and European as well as many off-side screenings and cycles. For a few years now the festival features also a special industry event called Short Latino – that comprises numerous meetings, lectures and presentations that bring together European and Latin American short film professionals.This year, two Polish films were invited to screen among 31 titles as a part of the European competition – already mentioned “Rogalik” and a short fiction “The Heat” by Bartosz Kruhlik. On Friday evening, during the closing gala the names of the laureated were revealed. “Rogalik” by Paweł Ziemilski (prod. Polish National Film School in Łódź) was awarded the 1st Prize of the European Competition.
Last November “Rogalik” received a nomination of prestigious IDFA and since then was screened at 27 festiwals abroad. The Spanish statuette is the 5th international award for this documentary.
“Rogalik” is a school etude of Ziemilski. Traveling among people and objects we discover a world usually considered as ugly and unattractive. This dream-like journey is not a dream. Who are the people in this „big aquarium”? And what is our position towards them?
