“DANGER ZONE” WINS AWARD IN MONTREAL
The documentary film “Danger Zone”, directed by Vita Maria Drygas, won the award for Best Feature Documentary at this year’s Montreal Women Film Festival. The event, held at the renowned Cinema du Parc, was created to support women in film and promote their work on the international stage.
Founded a few years ago to celebrate International Women’s Day, the Montreal Women Film Festival has quickly become a symbol of strength, creativity, and innovation among women in the film industry. During this year’s edition, Linda Serpone, President of the Montreal Council of Women, emphasized the importance of the festival as a platform that celebrates films addressing women’s rights and supports female directors in developing their artistic vision. Co-organized with the magazine “Women Cinema Daily”, the festival presents a wide range of films – from documentaries to animation and experimental productions – and its competitions are IMDb-qualifying.
The award-winning film “Danger Zone” explores the phenomenon of war tourism – a morally ambiguous practice in which thrill-seeking travelers look for extreme experiences in conflict zones. The film exposes the mechanisms of an industry that has turned war into a luxury commodity and raises questions about empathy, responsibility, and the privilege that comes solely from one’s place of birth. In the confrontation of two worlds – tourists and the inhabitants of war-torn regions – Drygas asks who truly benefits and who pays the highest price.
