SEPTEMBER FESTIVALS

In September, Polish documentaries will appear on festival screens in many countries, including Russia, Great Britain, USA, Israel, Croatia and Spain. The viewers will be able to watch seventeen titles at fourteen international festivals.

„Written in Ink” by Martin Rath, the most often shown Polish documentary at the 2012 festivals, will be presented in the competitive section of The Smalls Film Festival in Great Britain starting 2nd September. The film will also compete for awards at the Apolonia International Student Film Festival in Albania.

In September the Russian audience will have the opportunity to watch the biggest number of Polish documentaries. Four Polish productions have been listed for the competition at St. Petersburg,  International Festival of Debut and Student Film Beginning that is “The Whistle” by Grzegorz Zariczny, “Exit Point” by Jagoda Szelc, “My House Without Me” by Magdalena Szymków and “Emperor’s Toys” directed by Joanna Wójcik, Joanna Rusinek, Jarosław Moździerz, Tomasz Godfryd and Grzegorz Wierzchowski. What is more, Paweł Ziemilski’s „Rogalik” and Zbigniew Czapla’s „Paperbox” will be shown in the non-competitive sections. The end of September in St. Petersburg brings the Message to Man International Film Festival, where the films “Camp” directed by Tomasz Jeziorski and “Father and Son on a Journey” by Marcel Łoziński will be taking part in the competition. 

While Marcel Łoziński’s film will be presented in Russia, the work of Paweł Łoziński, “Father and son”, will compete for awards at two Lithuanian festivals. First is going to be the Vilnius Documentary Film Festival, in the non-competitive section of which the film „Argentinian Lesson” by Wojciech Staroń will also be shown; the other one is the Kaunas International Film Festival. In another Eastern European country, Georgia, two other Polish titles will be presented. The selection committee at the Batumi International Art House Film Festival has chosen the film “Bad Boy – High Security Cell” by Janusz Mrozowski and “The Man Who Made Angels Fly” by Wiktoria Szymańska to take part in the competitive section of the festival. The latter is also going to compete for awards in Israel, at the Haifa International Film Festival.

In addition to the already mentioned film „Written in Ink”, the films „Rogalik” by Paweł Ziemilski, "Love" by Filip Dzierzawski and „The Conversation” by Piotr Sułkowski will be also shown in Great Britain. The first film has been chosen to compete at the Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival in Bristol, the second will be shown in a non-competitive section at Rainadce Film Festival abd the third has been selected to the competition at the Night Contact Multimedia and Photography Film Festival in London. Moreover, the English speakers at the other side of the ocean will have the chance to see the film „Castaways” directed by Janusz Grunberg and Tomasz Wiśniewski, which is going to take part in the DC Shorts Film Festival in Washington.

 Polish documentaries will also appear in the festival programmes in Spain, Croatia and Hungary. In Spain, the film “Whistle” by Grzegorz Zariczny will have a chance for an award at the Tenerife Shorts Festival. The competition section of the Split Film Festival includes the film “Freestyle Life” by Adam Palenta, while the film “We Will Be Happy One Day” by Paweł Wysoczański is going to compete at the Hungarian Jameson Cinefest Festival.
