'THE ART OF DISAPPEARING' IN POLISH CINEMAS AND AT THE 13TH T-MOBILE NEW HORIZONS IFF

The 13th T-Mobile New Horizons IFF, starting on July 18, will feature the latest documentary by Bartek Konopka and Piotr Rosołowski – 'The Art of Disapearing'. The film has also been released in cinemas across Poland.

The latest film by Bartek Konopka and Piotr Rosołowski, who authored the internationally awarded 'Rabbit à la Berlin', has been available for cinema audiences in Poland since July 19. The documentary in question, 'The Art of Disappearing' will also be screened during out-of-competition showings of the ongoing 13th T-Mobile New Horizons International Film Festival.

The film tells the story of Amon Fremon, a Haitian voodoo priest, Amon, who visited the People's Republic of Poland  in 1980 with a group of Haitians invited by the theatre of Jerzy Grotowski. As the Martial law is in the air, Amon decides to change the course of history. He claims that general Jaruzelski has been possessed by Baron Samedi, an evil demon who causes rigid posture and bloodshot eyes, thus forcing him to wear sunglasses. In December 1981 Amon conducts a voodoo ceremony so as to remove the curse, set general's soul free and stop Soviet tanks...

'The Art of Disappearing' had its premiere during the Swiss festival Visions du Reel and was subsequently shown during the Planete+ Doc, in the Industry section of Hot Docs Festival in Toronto, at the Doc Corner in Cannes and at the Krakow Film Market.

The background to the film's production and the filmmaking process were the subject of an interview with the authors by Daniel Stopa. The interview may be found in Polish Docs' Reading Room.
