LECH KOWALSKI TRIUMPHS AT FID MARSEILLE

The new film by Lech Kowalski „Holy Field Holy War” has received as many as three awards at FID Marseille Film Festival that ended on Monday, July 8th. The film “Sieniawka” by Michał Malaszczak has been awarded with the First Film Prize at the same festival.

„Holy Field Holy War” is a Polish-French coproduction that deals with the controversies related to the plans of shale gas mining in Poland. Lech Kowalski points his camera at Polish farmers  whose land is supposed to be a drilling area and documents their fears and anger. The screening in Marseille has been the world premiere of the film.

The film has been  appreciated  by the International Competition jury composed by: Eija-Liisa Ahtila, Saodat Ismailova, Sven Augustijnen, Lav Diaz and Matías Meyer, that  has awarded it with the Georges De Beauregard International Prize. Kowalski’s documentary has also received  GNCR Prize – the prize sponsored by French Experimental Cinema Network and the Marseille Esperance Prize sponsored by the City of Marseille.

Polish-German production „Sieniawka” directed by Marcin Malaszczak has also been successful in Marseille. In his film Malaszczak observes the wards of Psychiatric Hospital in Sieniawka. Malaszczak’s film has been awarded with the First Film Prize sponsored by the Conseil Régional de Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.
