POLISH PROJECT SELECTED FOR DCAMPUS WORKSHOPS

The list of 14 projects selected for this year’s DCampus Workshops has been announced. The programme is DCampus’s flagship incubator supporting the development of documentary and factual projects, aimed at Europe’s most promising filmmakers and content-making teams. Among the selected titles is also a project from Poland – “The Malaysian Jungle Book” by Paolo Volponi.

Over the course of 10 months, participants will develop their projects through intensive training, guidance from international mentors, and direct access to the market. The programme culminates in project presentations at DCampus Exchange @ Halle, held as part of the Silbersalz Science & Media Festival in October.

“The Malaysian Jungle Book” takes viewers to the remote rainforests of Royal Belum State Park in Peninsular Malaysia, where a filmmaking team uses remote cameras to observe wildlife in one of the world’s most biodiverse yet endangered ecosystems. The story centres on three Malayan tigers (with fewer than 150 remaining in the wild) and several Asian elephants, alongside, among others, sun bears, tapirs, black panthers, clouded leopards, and dholes. The film follows, among others, the elusive Slender Tigress, as well as the young elephant Curious Spirit and his mother Silent Guardian, building tension around a struggle for survival amid growing food scarcity, intensified by the effects of Asian swine fever. In the background, the project raises questions about conservation, the future of wilderness, and the limits of survival for endangered species.
