“RUNA” AWARDED AT POLISH DAYS

Polish Days 2023, the most important industry event of the mBank New Horizons IFF, co-organised by the Polish Film Institute, has just concluded.

Polish Days were held on 23–25 July 2023 during the 23rd mBank New Horizons International Film Festival, and are co-organised by the Polish Film Institute. Partners of the event include: FIXAFILM, ORKA, NO PROBLEMO MUSIC, Wrocław Film Commission, Łódź Film Commission, Mazovia Warsaw Film Commission, Podkarpackie Film Commission, Silesia Film Commission, Gdańsk Film Fund, DI FACTORY.

More than 190 film industry representatives from around the world gathered at closed screenings to watch finished films and film fragments in post-production and attended presentations of projects in development. As every year, the best projects were awarded by the Polish Days partners. One of the prizes, a financial contribution for sound post-production worth PLN 75,000, went to the documentary Runa by Agnieszka Zwiefka.

The Polish-Danish Runa is produced by Zofia Kujawska (Chilli Productions), Sigrid Dyekjær (Real Lava), and the director herself. The main character of the documentary is a 16-year-old Kurdish girl who, after the tragic death of her mother at the Polish-Belarusian border, has to become a mother to her 4 younger brothers. The family copes with the trauma and tries to build a life in Europe. This partly animated coming-of-age story is set against the backdrop of the global refugee crisis.
