MARCH FESTIVALS

Ten Polish productions in twenty screenings at fifteen film festivals – Polish documentaries appearance at March festivals can be described in these round numbers. This month Polish documentaries will be shown, among others, in India, Australia and Canada.

A run of festival luck of Martin Rath’s documentary „Written in ink” still lasts. The film, which was shown at almost 80 festivals in 2012, has been qualified to competitive sections of four film festivals this month. At the beginning of March it will be screened at Australian Byron Bay Festival and One World – People in Need Festival in Prague, where there will be also a screening of "Entagled" by Lidia Duda, and at the end of March – at European Independent Film Festival ECU in France and Ukrainian Docudays.

In the programme of Docudays there is not only Rath’s film but also three other Polish titles. “Paper box” by Zbigniew Czapla will be screened in a special screening while „Galumphing” by Kamila Józefowicz and „The Whistle” by Grzegorz Zariczny will compete for awards in the International Competition. After the success at Sundance Film Festival Zariczny cannot complain about the lack of interest in his film. „The Whistle” will compete for awards at five film festivals in March – the above mentioned Docudays and 18th Vilnius International Film Festival, 14th Dawson City International Short Film Festival, 10th International Football Film Festival and Slovak Febiofest.

Apart from „The Whistle”, also „Paper box” will take part in the competitive section of Febiofest. The experimental, animated documentary made by Zbigniew Czapla will be screened in the International Competition of Animafest in Athens. ”Freestyle life” directed by Adam Palenta will also have two chances of being awarded in March. The film will be shown at One World Romania International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival and Aubagne International Film Festival.

„Camp” made by a student of Polish National Film School in Łódź, Tomasz Jeziorski, has been selected to the competition of 43rd Tampere International Film Festival. „My house without me” by Magdalena Szymków will take part in the competitive section of the Seen&Heard Film Festival Sydney in remote Australia.

It’s worth mentioning that two films by Marta Minorowicz – „Decrescendo” and „A piece of summer” will have their special screenings in March. The audience of Festival International de Films de Femmes in Paris will have an opportunity to watch „Decrescendo” while the audience of DOK Leipzig Lake Festival in India  will watch “A piece of summer”. “Argentinean lesson” by Wojciech Staroń will also be screened at DOK Leipzig Lake Festival in India.
