POLISH DOCUMENTARY FILM AT AFO

On April 19 started the 51st edition of the International Festival of Science Documentary Films in Olomouc. During the festival, there will be a special screening of Polish documentary films about science.

The festival is organised by AFO - Academia Film Olomouc and for over 50 years promotes documentary film in Central Europe.  Since 2007, the festival's motto is "Watch and Know," and every year, the most interesting science films are shown here, which allow the viewers to get acquainted with the complicated world of science and technology and understand it.

This year, at the festival a special programme of Polish Science Documentary Films will be shown, co-organised by Krakow Film Foundation. The programme is prepared by Jerzy Armata, film critic, journalist and film historian, member of the Krakow Film Festival Programme Council, as well as the festival's selector.

In this section, the viewers in the Czech Republic will have an opportunity to get acquainted with Polish documentary films produced in 1960s, -70s, and -80s. The oldest film shown there will be, however, "Mantis" by Karol Marczak, about the habits of this insect. In the screening, we will also see the films: "Włodzimierz Puchalski´s World" by Barbara Bartman-Czecz, "Of the Life of Forest Animals" by Włodzimierz Puchalski, "The Poignancy of Plants" by Bolesław Bączyński, "Of Birds and Men" by Barbara Bartman-Czecz and Janusz Czecz, "Bioelectronics and the Mystery of Life" and "Life and Nourishment" by Józef Arkusz, "Man is The Measure of All Thinks" by Jerzy Popiel-Popiołek, "Quicksilver" by Zbigniew Kiersztejn and "The Theory of Disasters" by Marek Drążewski. The programme includes also two animated films: "How Dachshunds Work" by Julian Józef Antonisz and "Troubles with Temperature" by Witold Giersz.

During AFO one can also watch documentary films by Karol Jachołowski, currently shown in Krakow at AGH University of Science and Technology within the frames of the section DOCS+SCIENCE.PIONEERS.
