"BROTHERS" WITH THE GOLDEN DOVE AT DOK.LEIPZIG

On November 1, ended the 58th edition of the DOK.Leipzig festival. The Main Award in the International Competition went to Wojciech Staroń for the film "Brothers." But that is not all!

In the International Competition Long Documentary and Animated Film, there are two Polish films. "Brothers" by Wojciech Staroń and Polish-French-Romanian co-production "The Magic Mountain" by Anca Damian. The most important award in this competition went to the film "Brothers," which was honoured with the Golden Dove in Leipzig. In the justification of the verdict, the jury called the documentary film "extreme poetry and great cinematography," absorbing the viewer and allowing him to become a part of the film. The film also won the Ecumenical Jury award. It is not the first triumph of Wojciech Staroń at DOK.Leipzig. At the 54th edition, he was given the Silver Dove for the film "Argentinian lesson."

Another Polish production, which was included in the feature-length competition, can also boast a success. "The Magic Mountain" by Anca Damian was given the MDR Film Prize for an outstanding Eastern European film. The jury pointed out that the production uses various film forms: animation, watercolours, drawings, collages and photographs, to create the atmosphere of naive storytelling, at the same time showing the brutal reality.  According to the jury, "The Magic Mountain" is a proof that the cinema is constantly capable of re-discovering itself.

The opening film of the 58th DOK.Leipzig festival was "A Documentary Film" by Marcin Podolec, which was included in the short film competition, together with the documentary film  "Alarm Clock" by Piotr Małecki. In the non-competing sections of the festival in Leipzig, two Polish documentary films appeared: "The Dybbuk. A Tale of Wandering Souls" by Krzysztof Kopczyński and "Snails" by Grzegorz Szczepaniak.  Another ten films participated in DOK. Market, within the frames of the Polish Docs programme.
