POLISH DOCUMENTARY FILMS TRIUMPH IN KRAKOW

We know the award-winners of the 54th Krakow Film Festival. Two most important awards - the Golden Horn and the Golden Hobby-Horse – has been given to the Polish-German documentary film "The Domino Effect”.

The just completed 54th Krakow Film Festival can once again be called the feast of Polish documentary film. Polish documentary filmmakers came to the scene to receive the awards many times, also in the categories of international competitions. Two out of four most important awards - the Golden Horn and the Golden Hobby-Horse - went to "The Domino Effect" by Elwira Niewiera and Piotr Rosołowski. The latter was also given the best photography award. The Silver Hobby-Horse went to Jan P. Matuszyński for the film "Deep Love," also awarded a honourable mention by the Student Jury. Adam Palenta and Agnieszka Glińska received the best editing in documentary film award for the film "House On Its Head" by Adam Palenta, and Paweł Łoziński - Maciej Szumowski Award for the film "Werka."

Not only films, but also film projects were awarded. The best presentation award at the Dragon Forum went to the project "Ikona" (Icon) by Wojciech Kasperski, and the DOK.Incubator honourable mention for the best presentation at Docs to Go! went to "K2 Passage" by Eliza Kubarska.

INTERNATIONAL MUSIC DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION DocFilmMusic
Having seen all the competition films, the DocFilmMusic Jury consisting of: Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz – Chairman (Poland), Dick Fontaine (UK), Peter Rippl (Germany) have decided to award:

GOLDEN HEYNAL for the Director of the Best Film to Amanda Sans and Miquel Galofré, the directors of SONGS OF REDEMPTION (Jamaica/Spain).

Chelsea McMullan for the film MY PRAIRIE HOME (Canada)

The Student Jury for DocFilmMusic consisting of: Anita Bugajska, Maja Korbecka, Ula Szanduła have decided to award the film RAP IS WAR directed by Jesse Acevedo (Cuba/USA). Many films in the competition familiarize us with music that has passed. Our Award goes to a film which demonstrates that music still has a great power. People on Cuba are afraid to speak up but are not scared to sing together with Los Albaneos. Rap es Guerra.


INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION
Having seen all the competition films, the International Documentary Competition Jury consisting of: Wojciech Staroń - Chairman (Poland), Marc Isaacs (UK), Krzysztof Kwiatkowski (Poland), Pau Montagud (Mexico), Marat Sargsyan (Lithuania) have decided to award:

GOLDEN HORN for the Director of the Best Film funded by the President of Telewizja Polska SA – Elwira Niewiera and Piotr Rosołowski, the directors of DOMINO EFFECT (Poland, Germany).

SILVER HORN for the Director of the Best Medium-Length Documentary – Dan Wasserman, the director of DO YOU BELIEVE IN LOVE? (Israel).

SILVER HORN for the Director of the Best Feature-Length Documentary – Talal Derki, the director of RETURN TO HOMS (Syria, Germany).

SPECIAL MENTIONS:

Alina Rudnitskaya for the film BLOOD (Russia)

THE AWARD OF THE POLISH SOCIETY OF CINEMATOGRAPHERS (PSC) for the best cinematography funded by The Chimney Pot to Elwira Niewiera and Piotr Rosołowski for the film DOMINO EFFECT (Poland, Germany).

The FIPRESCI (International Federation of Film Critics) Jury consisting of: Pierre-Simon Gutman (France), István Szathmáry (Hungary), Tonci Valentic (Croatia) have decided to award the film BORDERS directed by Jacqueline van Vugt (The Netherlands) for the sweep of its visions on a situation too well-known, facing it by including all the perspectives and points of view.

The Student Jury for Documentary Competition consisting of: Magdalena Ciesielska, Kamil Kalbarczyk, Mateusz Kicka have decided to award the film RETURN TO HOMS directed by Talal Derki (Syria, Germany).


INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM COMPETITION
Having seen all the competition films, the International Short Film Competition Jury consisting of: Wojciech Marczewski – Chairman (Poland), Giannalberto Bendazzi (Italy), Illia Gladshtein (Ukraine), Katrine Kiilgaard (Denmark), Cinzia Spironello (Italy) have decided to award the following prizes:

GOLDEN DRAGON for the Director of the Best Film – Jerzy Kucia, the director of FUGUE FOR CELLO, TRUMPET AND LANDSCAPE (Poland).

SILVER DRAGON for the Director of the Best Documentary Film – Juliette Touin, the director of THE BIG HOUSE (Cuba).

SILVER DRAGON for the Directors of the Best Animated Film – Stephen Irwin, the directors of THE OBVIOUS CHILD (UK).

SILVER DRAGON for the Director of the Best Short Fiction Film – Mat Kirkby, the director of THE PHONE CALL (UK).

The Student Jury for Short Film Competition consisting of: Lucyna Adamska, Aleksandra Koźmińska, Krzysztof Siwoń have decided to award the film THROUGH THE HAWTHORN directed by Anna Benner, Pia Borg, and Gemma Burditt (UK) for capturing the complexity of human perception and psyche through diverse yet harmonious formal solutions.
