GET WITH THE PROGRAMME Conference at Krakow Film Festival

Get with the programme – Conference of festival programmers during the 52nd Krakow Film Festival on next Wednesday

Programmers from numerous festivals from across the world will talk about their experiences programming shorts, features, animations and documentaries whilst sharing some anecdotes about the highs and lows of being a film programmer.

This event will prove crucial to filmmakers who want to understand more about film festivals and just what happens when they send off their submissions and to other industry professionals who want to find out more about a subject that is important to the promotion of films across the world yet rarely talked about in a public forum.

The conference will take place  on Wednesday 30.05.2012, 12.00 – 14.00 at Międzynarodowe Centrum Kultury, Sala „Pod Kruki”/  „Pod Kruki” Hall,  Rynek Główny 25

PANELISTS:  Grit Lemke – DOK LEIPZIG ( Germany), Alessandro Marcionni – LOCARNO FILM FESTIVAL (Switzerland), Dominik Marosi – FANTOCHE (Switzerland), Luciano Barisone – VISIONS DU REEL (Switzerland), Gaia Meucci - ENCOUNTERS SHORT FILM AND ANIMATION FESTIVAL BRISTOL (UK)

MODERATOR: Laurence Boyce - SLEEPWALKERS STUDENT AND SHORT FILM FESTIVAL W TALLINNIE (UK/Estonia)

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE:

„There are many people who believe that the role of the programmer is often seen as the same as a critic:  they sit around, pass judgement on the films sent to them and then decide which ones they’re going to support.

However, the truth is infinitely more complex than that. Get With The Programme will explore the various pressures associated with film and festival programming to give a greater insight into a process that remains mysterious to many. The event will consider the mechanics of programming, with advice for filmmakers on the do’s and don’ts of submitting to a festival, and also examine many of the ethical questions behind programming. How does a programmer balance their responsibilities towards their audiences and to filmmakers? What popular misconceptions are there about programming? How much should a programmer allow their personal taste influence the films that they choose? Along the way, the event will also champion the continuing relevance of film festivals in today’s digital world” – Laurence Boyce, moderator and inicjator of the Conference.
