EAGLES NOMINATIONS REVELAED

We have learned the list of films nominated for this year's Polish Film Academy Awards. Mariusz Wilczyński's animated film is competing for best film while the title of best documentary will go to one of five films. The winners will be announced on 21 June.

Polish Film Awards, the annual awards of the Polish Film Academy, have been organised by the Independent Film Foundation at the request of the Polish Film Academy since 1999. Dariusz Jabłoński, director and film producer, current President of the Polish Film Academy, came up with the idea for the Eagles.

The academy was clearly taken by Mariusz Wilczyński's animated film. “Kill It and Leave This Town” was nominated for the main award, but it also has a chance to win in the categories of best director, best screenplay, discovery of the year (two nominations), best set design, sound, and score.

Although the prizes have been awarded for over 20 years, it was not until 2013 that a category appeared that allowed to honour the best Polish documentaries. In recent years, the title of Best Documentary went to the following films: “Man at War” by Jacek Bławut, “Another World” by Dorota Kędzierzawska, “Warsaw Uprising” by Jan Komasa, “The Actress” by Kinga Dębska and Maria Konwicka, “Communion” by Anna Zamecka, “21 x New York” by Piotr Stasik, “The Prince and the Dybbuk” by Elwira Niewiera and Piotr Rosołowski, and “Tell No One” by Tomasz Sekielski.

This year, five films have a chance to win the statuette in the documentary competition: “Guczo. Notes On Life” by Maria Zmarz-Koczanowicz, “Lessons of Love” by Małgorzata Goliszewska and Katarzyna Mateja, “Wall of Shadows” by Eliza Kubarska, “The Whale From Lorino” by Maciej Cuske and “An Ordinary Country” by Tomasz Wolski.
