Andrzej Panufnik (1914-1991), an excellent composer, spent most of his life as an émigré in the UK. He left Poland in 1954 convinced that he would not ever go back again. He never suspected that communism may be overthrown and in 1990, short before his death, he would stand on the Polish soil again. For Jem, his father’s past was always shrouded in mystery. He did not manage to talk to him about it.
