NATALIA KONIARZ’S "SILVER" WINS TWO AWARDS AT TRENTO FILM FESTIVAL

Silver, directed by Natalia Koniarz, continues its impressive run on the international festival circuit. Following its recent success at ZagrebDox – International Documentary Film Festival, where the film received the Little Stamp Award for Best Film by a Young Author as well as a Special Mention in the International Competition, the production has now been honoured with another prestigious awards – this time in Italy.

The film received the Jury Prize and the Student Jury Prize at the 74th Trento Film Festival, where it was presented in the International Competition. The screening in Trento also marked the Italian premiere of Silver.

In its statement, the jury emphasised the exceptional strength of the cinematic experience created by Natalia Koniarz:

“Rather than attempting to explain the world inside the mines, Silver is a film that allows us to experience the atmosphere and silence reigning within them, along with the exploitation characterising them. Exploitation of men and women, but at the same time, exploitation of the mountains, which are gradually disappearing, gutted by mining taking place with a violence that desecrates the sacredness of the mountains – a situation masterfully conveyed by the film”.

The award in Trento marks another important international success for a film that continues to attract the attention of festival audiences and juries. Silver develops its story of the world of mines not through straightforward commentary, but through a careful observation of space, silence, labour and the violence embedded in the exploitation of both people and nature.

Founded in 1952, Trento Film Festival is the world’s oldest film festival dedicated to mountain cinema and the second-oldest film festival in Italy, surpassed only by the Venice Film Festival. For more than seventy years, it has remained one of the key events devoted to mountains, adventure and exploration, while also becoming a space for new cinematic visions and reflections on the highest regions of the Earth. The programme of the 74th edition featured 130 films and 150 events.

Silver is a Polish-Finnish-Norwegian co-production. The Polish producer of the film is Maciej Kubicki of Telemark, and its international festival distribution is handled by KFF Sales.
