“SILVER” WINS TWO AWARDS AT ZAGREBDOX

"Silver", directed by Natalia Koniarz, received two awards at the 22nd ZagrebDox – International Documentary Film Festival. The film was honored with the Little Stamp Award for Best Film by a Young Author and also received a Special Mention in the International Competition.

This marks another significant achievement for the film, which a month earlier won the Best Director award in the Baltic Focus competition at the International Documentary Film Festival IDFF Artdocfest/Riga. Cinematographer Stanisław Cuske was also recognized with the Polish Society of Cinematographers (PSC) Award in the documentary category. Silver further received the Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary at Slamdance, where it had its U.S. premiere, and had previously been acclaimed at festivals including Ji.hlava and the Krakow Film Festival.

Founded in 2005, ZagrebDox is one of Europe’s leading documentary film festivals. It aims to present outstanding recent documentary productions, support national filmmaking, and foster international co-production collaboration.

Silver takes viewers deep into Cerro Rico - one of the oldest silver mines in Bolivia, marked by a long history of violence and exploitation. In a subterranean world immersed in silence and darkness, reality unfolds through the perspectives of a boy, an experienced miner, and a woman. The film intertwines personal stories with a reflection on colonial legacy and ongoing systems of exploitation, forming a powerful meditation on memory and human endurance.

The film is a Polish–Finnish–Norwegian co-production. The Polish producer is Maciej Kubicki (Telemark), with KFF Sales handling international festival distribution.

Other films in this year’s ZagrebDox programme included Confessions of a Mole directed by Mo Tan and Closure by Michał Marczak.
