“THE PASSENGER ANDRZEJ MUNK” WITH AN INTERNATIONAL PREMIERE IN ARGENTINA
The feature-length documentary “Passenger” Andrzej Munk, directed by Michał Bielawski, has been selected for the 40th Mar del Plata International Film Festival. The film will be screened in the Panorama section, which showcases the most compelling and current works of international cinema – both from established filmmakers and emerging voices.
The film’s international premiere will take place on November 7 at the historic Teatro Colón, a stunning venue with over a century of history. This marks an important moment for Polish cinema, as the Mar del Plata Festival is the only FIAPF Category A event in Latin America, holding the highest international accreditation. Since 1954, it has served as a major platform for artistic exchange and a key meeting point for leading figures of the global film industry.
The screening in Mar del Plata also carries a symbolic tribute. Among the festival’s distinguished laureates are icons such as Ingmar Bergman, Arthur Penn, Sally Potter, Cristian Mungiu and Hirokazu Kore-eda. Andrzej Munk, the protagonist of Bielawski’s documentary, was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize here in 1959 for “Eroica” – making this invitation a symbolic return of the celebrated filmmaker to Argentina.
About the film
“The Passenger Andrzej Munk” is a documentary portrait of one of the most significant figures of the Polish Film School and the creator of such classics as “Man on the Tracks”,” Eroica”, “Bad Luck” and “Passenger”. Bielawski reconstructs the artistic journey of Munk using unique archival materials – some of which have never been shown before – along with film excerpts, newsreels and photographs. The narrative is guided by off-screen voices: interviews with Munk himself as well as his closest collaborators and friends, offering intimate insight into his life and lasting artistic legacy.
The 40th Mar del Plata International Film Festival will be held November 6-16.
