THREE POLISH PROJECTS AT JI.HLAVA NEW VISIONS FORUM & MARKET 2025
Three Polish productions have been selected for this year’s edition of Ji.hlava New Visions Forum & Market, taking place on October 29–31 during the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival.
Ji.hlava New Visions Forum & Market is a unique industry event designed to support diverse and creative documentary productions from across Europe. It enables filmmakers to build international co-productions and strengthen market visibility. The program presents the most promising European documentary projects at various stages of development – from early concept, through production, to post-production.
Among the fourteen selected projects is the Polish production “Fortunate Isles”– a feature-length documentary directed by Małgorzata and Magda Juszczak (prod. Zuzanna Tomczyńska, Ciao Ciao Films). The film tells the story of two women living in the Canary Islands who challenge the consequences of mass tourism, fighting for workers’ rights and environmental protection. It is a new project by the co-author of the award-winning documentary “Stolen fish”.
Also invited to present at Ji.hlava New Visions is “Quiet War”, directed by Lana Shapoval. On the first day of the war, the Ukrainian filmmaker leaves Kyiv, documenting not only destruction but also the growing disinformation and fear spreading across Europe. The project is a co-production involving creators from Ukraine, Poland, Germany, France, and Spain.
In the Ji.hlava New Visions Forum section, the contribution of Polish creators includes “The Game of Women and War” by Zlata Veresniak – a moving film about Ukrainian women who survived the war yet remain silent due to trauma. Their experiences are interpreted by Belgian actresses, who confront memory, empathy, and artistic responsibility.
JNV Forum & Market is part of the Doc Alliance Network of Markets – an initiative of four European documentary markets supporting collaboration within the industry and the visibility of new projects.
