“DISTANCES” AWARDED IN JIHLAVA

Matej Bobrik's new film has been recognised as the best Central and Eastern European documentary at this year's edition of the Ji.Hlava festival.

The Ji.hlava International Film Festival is one of the largest documentary film festivals in Central and Eastern Europe. Every year, the Czech city of Jihlava sees numerous industry representatives and viewers arrive to experience interesting cinema.

The winning Distances by Matej Bobrik tells the story of an immigrant family who came to Poland from Nepal.  Shiv works as a food delivery courier during the day and a taxi driver at night. Meanwhile, his teenage son starts attending school, and his increasingly unhappy wife stays at home. The boy has acclimatised to the new environment, while his mother dreams of returning to her homeland. They had been looking for a better life, which –years later – led to misunderstandings and may ultimately break the family apart.
