Matej Bobrik, dir­ector of the doc­u­ment­ary etude “Where the sun doesn’t rush”, made in the Leon Schiller’s National Higher School of Film, Tele­vi­sion and Theatre in Łódź, was awar­ded at the Brazilian Stu­dent Film Festival.

“For delib­er­ately inter­fer­ing in what could be a merely con­tem­plat­ive work, the film con­structs, with ele­ments such as fram­ing, sound and edit­ing, an affect­ive and humor­ous por­trait of a com­munity”. This is how the jury of the Brazilian Stu­dent Film Fest­ival jus­ti­fied its decision to award the doc­u­ment­ary by Matej Bobrik for nar­rat­ive con­struc­tion of the film in the inter­na­tional com­pet­i­tion. Brazilian Stu­dent Film Fest­ival (Fest­ival Brasileiro de Cinema Uni­versitário, FBCU) takes place in two cit­ies: Rio de Janeiro (28^th July – 8^th August) and São Paulo (9^th – 15^th August).

“Where the sun doesn’t rush” is a pic­ture of a tiny Slovak vil­lage, whose inhab­it­ants moon about, observing the quiet, mono­ton­ous real­ity – without amazement, with full accept­ance. Their time is meas­ured by the announce­ments from local radio sta­tion and sub­sequent news of someone’s death, which con­sti­tutes a con­stant and nat­ural ele­ment of the sur­round­ing environment. 

The doc­u­ment­ary impres­sion by Matej Bobrik was appre­ci­ated and awar­ded at sev­eral film fest­ivals – in Poland as well as abroad – among oth­ers, at Krakow Film Fest­ival (Maciej Szu­mowski award), Minsk Open Stu­dent Film & Video Fest­ival Kino­gran (the best doc­u­ment­ary film award), Węgiel Stu­dent Film Fest­ival (the best dir­ector award), The New York Pol­ish Film Fest­ival (“Bey­ond Bor­ders” Krzysztof Kieślowski award for the best doc­u­ment­ary film).
