On Sun­day, 18^th July, the organizers of the Inter­national Film Festival in Pärnu, Estonia, have announ­ced the list of the win­ners in the festival com­petitions. The award for the best short documen­tary went to Piotr Złotorowicz, the direc­tor of “Char­coal Burners”. 

The film “Char­coal Bur­ners” took part in the inter­national com­petition of the festival in Pärnu, figh­ting for the highest award in the “short documen­tary” category, with the Ser­bian film “Shadow” by Vladimir Perovic and Hun­garian “How Long?” by Cecilia Bella. Even more, during the Estonian festival, there was the premiere screening of this Polish documentary. 

“Char­coal Bur­ners” is a documen­tary etude by Piotr Złotorowicz, a graduate of Szczecin Univer­sity of Tech­nology. Since 2006, he has been studying at The Leon Schiller’s National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre in Łódź. The film is a short story of Marek and Janina, who work as char­coal bur­ners in Biesz­czady every year. The protagonists lead sim­ple, unhur­ried life, dif­ferent from hustle and bustle of urban civilization. We observe them doing everyday chores, from the ear­liest hours in the mor­ning to twilight, being together with them among the wild nature, which sets the rhythm of every day. 

Soon, the film “Char­coal Bur­ners” will be shown at two Polish festivals: at 10^th Inter­national Film Festival “Era New Horizons” in Wrocław (the screening will take place on 29^th July, 1 .p.m.), where the documen­tary will take part in the “Polish Short Films” com­petition, and at 4^th Film and Art Festival “Two River­sides” in Kazimierz Dolny and Janowiec nad Wisłą(the screening will take place on 2^nd August, 2 p.m.). After the screenings, the audience at both festivals will have an oppor­tunity to meet the director.
