On Sunday, 18^th July, the organ­izers of the Inter­na­tional Film Fest­ival in Pärnu, Esto­nia, have announced the list of the win­ners in the fest­ival com­pet­i­tions. The award for the best short doc­u­ment­ary went to Piotr Zło­torow­icz, the dir­ector of “Char­coal Burners”.

The film “Char­coal Burn­ers” took part in the inter­na­tional com­pet­i­tion of the fest­ival in Pärnu, fight­ing for the highest award in the “short doc­u­ment­ary” cat­egory, with the Ser­bian film “Shadow” by Vladi­mir Per­ovic and Hun­garian “How Long?” by Cecilia Bella. Even more, dur­ing the Esto­nian fest­ival, there was the premiere screen­ing of this Pol­ish documentary.

“Char­coal Burn­ers” is a doc­u­ment­ary etude by Piotr Zło­torow­icz, a gradu­ate of Szcze­cin Uni­ver­sity of Tech­no­logy. Since 2006, he has been study­ing at The Leon Schiller’s National Higher School of Film, Tele­vi­sion and Theatre in Łódź. The film is a short story of Marek and Jan­ina, who work as char­coal burn­ers in Bieszczady every year. The prot­ag­on­ists lead simple, unhur­ried life, dif­fer­ent from hustle and bustle of urban civil­iz­a­tion. We observe them doing every­day chores, from the earli­est hours in the morn­ing to twi­light, being together with them among the wild nature, which sets the rhythm of every day.

Soon, the film “Char­coal Burn­ers” will be shown at two Pol­ish fest­ivals: at 10^th Inter­na­tional Film Fest­ival “Era New Hori­zons” in Wrocław (the screen­ing will take place on 29^th July, 1 .p.m.), where the doc­u­ment­ary will take part in the “Pol­ish Short Films” com­pet­i­tion, and at 4^th Film and Art Fest­ival “Two River­sides” in Kazi­mierz Dolny and Janowiec nad Wisłą(the screen­ing will take place on 2^nd August, 2 p.m.). After the screen­ings, the audi­ence at both fest­ivals will have an oppor­tun­ity to meet the director.
