At the Doc­u­ment­ary Film Fest­ival FID­Mar­seille in Mar­seilles, which fin­ished on 12^th of July, the Pol­ish doc­u­ment­ary “The work of the machines” by three dir­ect­ors, Michał Mądracki, Maciej Mądracki and Gilles Lepore, won the main prize in the inter­na­tional competition.

“The work of machines” is a pic­ture of a typ­ical town, situ­ated near the work­place. In the shop­ping centre, two little girls play on the carou­sel, on the great sta­dium a foot­ball match takes place, watched only by a hand­ful of sup­port­ers. Here The Work of the Machines begins. In 1968, a dance in hon­our of the depart­ment was inven­ted. By fol­low­ing the memor­ies, the for­got­ten cho­reo­graphy is recovered. The recon­struc­tion of the dance is a time machine, a jour­ney to an ideal world, where pro­duc­tion was meant to sig­nify happy life.

The screen­ing of the film at the FID­Mar­seille fest­ival was its inter­na­tional premiere, and the Grand Prix award, for which 20 doc­u­ment­ar­ies com­peted in the inter­na­tional com­pet­i­tion, is the first sig­ni­fic­ant award for the recently made film by three dir­ect­ors: Michał Mądracki, Maciej Mądracki and Gilles Lepore.

Michał Mądracki – the gradu­ate of Reli­gious Stud­ies at Jagi­el­lo­nian Uni­ver­sity, is a scriptwriter. Maciej Mądracki – the gradu­ate of Film Stud­ies at Jagi­el­lo­nian Uni­ver­sity – now a stu­dent of dir­ect­ing at Krzysztof Kieślowski Fac­ulty of Radio and Tele­vi­sion in Katowice. The third dir­ector of “The work of the machines”, Gilles Lepore, is an author of com­ics, illus­tra­tions and he is also a film-​maker. He gradu­ated from the Visual Arts School in Bienne, Switzer­land. He was the schol­ar­ship holder at the Krakow Jan Mate­jko Academy of Fine Arts of the anim­a­tion work­shop by Pro­fessor Jerzy Kucia, and thanks to this cooper­a­tion the short anim­ated film “The Cage” was made.
