"WARSAW UPRISING" WINS THE EAGLE AWARD FOR THE BEST POLISH DOCUMENTARY FILM
On Monday evening, March 2, there was the awards ceremony of Polish Film Awards Eagles 2015. The best documentary film award went to "Warsaw Uprising." Documentary films also got the best sound and the best music awards.
On 2 March in Polish Theatre in Warsaw the awards ceremony of Polish Film Awards Eagles 2015 took place. It was the seventeenth time when the Eagle statuettes were awarded, but only the third time when documentary films could also compete for the award. RThe members of the Film Academy granted the Eagle award for the Best Documentary Film to the montage film "Warsaw Uprising" made under the supervision of Jan Komasa. "Domino Effect" by Elwira Niewiera annd Piotr Rosołowski and "Dream of Warsaw" by Krzysztof Magowski were also nominated in the same category. The latter was, however, appreciated for its music and the awards in this category went to... Czesław Niemen for the performance of the title song. “Warsaw Uprising" won also the award for the best sound, which was the responsibility of Bartosz Putkiewicz.
"Warsaw Uprising" is the first non-fiction war drama cut in full from documentary, archival materials, telling of the eponymous historical event through the story of two young reporters, witnesses to the fights during the uprising. The film uses authentic newsreel from August 1944. Applying modern technology method of colourisation and audio reconstruction and ensuring the co-operation of the best artists, the film's authors made a project which has no equals in the entire world.
"A Dream of Warsaw" tells the story of Czesław Niemen, who died ten years ago - an icon for several generations of Poles. In the era of Polish People's Republic, he managed to raise popular music to the level of real art, winning renown also abroad. He was born in 1939 in Staryya Vasilishki (today in Belarus), and his biography was shaped, to a large extent, by the turbulent history of this part of Europe. The film is a portrait of the charismatic musician, composed from unique archival materials and memories of his close ones.
