„BEHIND THE FENCE” - ONE OF TEN

Mar­cin Sauter’s film “Behind the Fence” is on the list of ten best recent short-​length films pro­moted by L’Agence du Court Metrage in France.

L’Agence du Court Metrage was foun­ded in 1983 by a group of film pro­fes­sion­als – dir­ect­ors, pro­du­cers and dis­trib­ut­ors. Their aim is to improve the doc­u­ment­ary film mar­ket, by pro­mot­ing the films on inter­na­tional scale, as well as enabling cooper­a­tion between film-​makers and dis­trib­ut­ors.

L’Agence du Court Metrage cre­ated a pro­gramme made of 10 best doc­u­ment­ar­ies of recent years, under the com­mon name: CROSS­ING BOR­DER /​A LA FRON­TIERE. The pro­gramme is com­posed of the fol­low­ing films:

- „Cold Water” (Teresa Vil­laverde), Por­tugal,

- „Mag­netic North” (Mir­anda Pen­nell), Great Bri­tain 2003,

- „Muto” (Blu), Italy 2007/​2008,

- „Papil­lon d’Amour” (Nic­olas Prov­ost), Bel­gium 2003,

- „Kleit” (Mari-​Liis Bas­sovskaja & Jelena Girlin), Esto­nia, 2007,

- „1977 (Peque Varela), Great Bri­tain, 2007,

- „Mam­mal” (Astrid Rieger), Ger­many, 2006,

- „Ona Koja Mjeri” („She who meas­ures”, Veljko Popovic) — Croatia, 2008,

- „Plivnuti Polib­kem” („Spit Kiss”, Milos Tomic) – Czech Repub­lic, 2007.

From 2010, dur­ing the next three years the French L’Agence du Court Metrage will be pro­mot­ing the best ten films, includ­ing the one by the Pol­ish dir­ector.

Mar­cin Sauter gradu­ated from the Doc­u­ment­ary Course at Andrzej Wajda Mas­ter School of Film Dir­ect­ing. Earlier he stud­ied pho­to­graphy at Pol­ish National Film, Tele­vi­sion and Theater School in Lodz and worked for four years as a press pho­to­grapher for Gaz­eta Wybor­cza daily. With Maciej Cuske, he shot an hour-​length fea­ture film „I co wy na to, Gałuszko?” (2001). In 2005 his début doc­u­ment­ary film “Behind the Fence” was given the prize for the best pho­to­graphy at the 45th Krakow Film Fest­ival. His début film received the best prizes also at the European film schools fest­ivals in Lon­don and Vil­nius, as well as the first prize at the pres­ti­gi­ous doc­u­ment­ary film con­test Cinema du Reel in Paris. He got the Sil­ver Dragon award at the 46th Krakow Film Fest­ival for his next film “The Trav­el­ling Cinema.” Within the frames of “Rus­sia – Poland. A New Gaze” pro­ject he made the film “The First Day” which received sev­eral awards at inter­na­tional fest­ivals. He is the co-​founder of the Paladino Film Group, the group of young, cre­at­ive doc­u­ment­ar­ists, con­nec­ted with the Wajda School. Together they made the doc­u­ment­ary “Andrzej Wajda: Let’s Shoot!”. In 2009 Sauter made a doc­u­drama called “South from Kalab­ria.”
