Last Saturday, 19th July, at the Theatre of Ballet and Opera in the capital of Armenia - Yerevan - the ceremony of closing the festival and the award gala of the Golden Apricot International Film Festival took place. The documentary "The Domino Effect," made by Elwira Niewiera and Piotr Rosołowski, was appreciated by the jury committee of the International Documentary Competition, consisting of: Sergei Trymbach (Ukraine), Victoria Belopolskaya (Russia), Giona A. Nazzaro (Switzerland) and Svetoslav Stoyanov (Bulgaria). The film won the Silver Apricot, the second award in the competition. The Italian-French film "The Stone River" by Giovanni Donfrancesco won the Golden Apricot.

"The Domino Effect" is the story of Rafael and Natasha, who begin their life together on the ruins of a state which has not even been born yet. He is the minister of sport of the Republic of Abkhazia, not recognised by other states, and she is an opera singer. For Rafael, Natasha abandoned her career and family in Russia. However, living in a country not recognised virtually by anyone, marked with civil war and completely dependent on Russia's whims, quickly ceases to be a romantic adventure. Just like as in a chain reaction when one event launches a series of following events, the fates of the protagonists are intertwined with the course of history. Does their love have any chance of survival in a country where pervasive drama is constantly interspersed with absurdity?

It is worth adding in the Armenian Film Panorama two awards went to the Polish-Armenian co-production "Milky Brother" by Vahram Mkhitaryan. The film won the Golden Apricot award in the Short Feature Film category and the Hrant Mateovossian Special Prize for the best script .
