„CASTAWAYS” AWARDED IN PITTSBURGH

A documentary „Castaways” by Sławomir Grünberg and Tomasz Wiśniewski has been awarded with the Grand Prix of 2013 Robinson International Short Film Competition. The film will be now screened ad 53rd Krakow Film Festival.

Robinson International Short Film Competition is a festival which honors independent filmmakers working with Jewish themes. It is organized by the Pittsburgh Jewsih Film Forum. On May 8th the Award Gala of the festival was held. The jury has decided to award “Castaways” by Sławomir Grünberg and Tomasz Wisniewski with the Grand Prix.

The film goes back to  the summer of 1943 when the Nazis started final deportation of Jews from the Białystok region to the death camp in Treblinka. The transportation route led through Łapy, a town where trains would slow down significantly. Some parents threw their children out of the train windows to save them from death. The documentary presents the accounts of eyewitnesses who remember the shocking cases of deaths as well as those of miraculous survival.

It is worth mentioning that „Castaways” will be screened on May 29th and 30th in Krakow (Poland) as a part of the official selection of 53rd Krakow Film Festival.
