„GLASGOW” AND „THE LAST DAY OF SUMMER” AWARDED AT TOUS COURTS

On 10th December the 29th edition of International Short Film Festival Tous Courts in Aix-en-Provance came to an end. At the Saturday’s closing gala two Polish films scored the awards.

This years’ edition of the festival screened films produced in more than forty countries. Films selected to the international competition were chosen from nearly 1700 entries. The final programme announcement revealed that six Polish films were accepted to the group of 59 competition films – “Heroic Parrot with the Dog” by Marcin Sławek, “Millhaven” by Bartek Kulas, “Barbican” by Bartek Żmuda, “Play with me” Piotr Sułkowski, “The last day of summer” by Piotr Stasik and “Glasgow” by Piotr Subbotko. On 10th December the last two titles from above mentioned were awarded.

Last Saturday “Glasgow” by Piotr Subbotko produced in the frame of “30 minutes” programme by Munk Studio, Wajda Studio and TVP received the Special Jury Prize. ‘Glasgow’ is the story of a 12-year-old boy Damian, who is convinced that his father is a well-known football player in the club Celtic Glasgow. During the holidays, the boy tries to earn enough money to afford a trip to Scotland, so he helps a retired man Miecio in household repairs. He falls in love with a 15-year-old pregnant girl Monika, wants to take care of her child and take both of them to a better world. Subbotko’s film was so far awarded at Russian “Message to Man”, Armenian “Golden Apricot” and festival in Cottus in Germany.

“The last day of summer” by Piotr Stasik was awarded “Onda curta” Prized handed by Portuguese broadcaster RTP2. The film produced by TVP SA and Centrala Film gives an insight into the contemporary Russia through the observation of young students and their everyday life at cadet school in Penza 700 km away from Moscow. The director picks up few characters, showing how much their stay at school influences their lives, how their personalities change, discovers what are they hopes and dreams. The school is being shown as a respectable institution that in some way, puts an end on its students blissful childhood. In recognition of his cinematic work Stasik received the Golden Frog award at last years Plus Camerimage FF. IN 2011 “The last day of Summer” was awarded at goEast in Germany and at Russian “Flahertiana”.
