At one of the most import­ant film events in China – the Inter­na­tional Doc­u­ment­ary Film Fest­ival in Guang­zhou – “Argen­tinian Lessom” dir­ec­ted by Woj­ciech Staroń once again stood on the top of the podium.

“Argen­tinian Lesson’s” achieved spec­tac­u­lar suc­cess at the fest­ival in Krakow dur­ing which Woj­ciech Staron received Golden Horn for the Dir­ector of the Best Film, the Award of the Pol­ish Asso­ci­ation of Cine­ma­to­graph­ers (PSC) for the best cine­ma­to­graphy in the doc­u­ment­ary film, the Pres­id­ent of the Asso­ci­ation of Pol­ish Film­makers Award, the Pres­id­ent of TVP S.A (Pol­ish Tele­vi­sion) Award for the Best Cine­ma­to­graphy, and the Stu­dent Jury Award. It also did great at the fest­ival in Leipzig (Sil­ver Dove Award), Minks (Grand Prix) and Florence (the Best Dir­ector Prize), and now the doc­u­ment­ary film cap­tiv­ated audi­ence in Guang­zhou in China. 


This film presents the vag­rant life and troubles of two fam­il­ies with a vast pan­or­ama. The film fea­tures nat­ur­al­ness, exquis­ite­ness, and mild but with pas­sion. The scenes of the film are real and smooth, sober but also poetic. While giv­ing a vivid pic­ture of the cruel real­ity and unfair­ness in life, the film also reveals the warmth and merit of human nature – the jury announced deliv­er­ing the ver­dict.


“Argen­tinian Les­son” tells the story of seven-​year-​old Janek, the director’s son, who along with his par­ents goes to Argen­tina. For the little prot­ag­on­ist the trip is not only an encounter with a new lan­guage. Assisted by his Argen­tinean friend, little Janek will enter the fas­cin­at­ing world of games but also dis­cover the bit­ter taste of child­hood, pre­ma­turely tain­ted with the adults’ prob­lems, he has not known about so far.
